Tiffany Mak (b. Hong Kong) is a painter based in London, UK. She recently completed the Post Diploma in Figurative Painting at the Heatherley School of Fine Art, where she also trained as a portrait painter for two years. Although her practice began with the academic rigour that came with portraiture, she currently works from memory, observational drawing, film and literature.

She grew up with Chinese mythological stories that were passed down to her by her mother. Storytelling was one of her earliest ways of understanding the world, and her paintings are an extension of this tradition. While those stories were passed down through words, painting has become her way of telling stories that she finds difficult to put into words. She often begin with an image she doesn’t necessarily understand. Painting gives her the space to sit with those feelings, and come to understand the image and her own feelings more.

Her work currently explores intimacy with oneself, and intimacy in relationships with other people.
